Franklin/Clover/Seales -- The seasoned trio has just completed their third recording for the Beezwax label. Cozy up and give ear. The sound and interplay once again are worthy.
All Beezwax CDs are . . .
Personnel: Henry Franklin (bass), Steve Clover (drums), Marc Seales (piano)
Colemanology marks the third release on Beezwax by the Franklin/Clover/Seales trio. Just as with the prior two releases the trio presents a rich tapestry of sound. There is nothing mechanical about it. It’s all music.
Each track is a delightful exchange between three solid veterans of jazz music. Insofar as the title acknowledges jazz great Ornette Coleman, the listener’s ears will experience a certain freedom from the rigors of tradition. This is readily apparent with the juxtaposition of Louis Armstrong’s “Basin Street Blues” and Marc’s “Colemanology.”
Henry stretches and strums the double bass with his usual sense of music and strength. Steve colors the sound with a pertinence to show he is all ears. Marc applies the left and right hands in such a way as truly to say something.
I hope you, the listener, will gain half the pleasure I have in hearing this most recent output from this naturally musical trio.
